Our Caregiver Manager works at her office desk in a teal-colored room, with Aussiedoodle Luna by her side, paws on the desk. Plants and framed quotes decorate the wall.

Our New Glasgow office trainee, Luna, was busy learning the ropes with our Caregiver Manager, Lisa. This adorable Aussidedoodle is also approved to offer pet therapy visits in a few local Long-Term Care Facilities. We will be sharing some of Luna's visits on our social media to highlight the incredible benefits of pet therapy.

Why Pet Therapy Matters For Seniors

Pet therapy is an excellent way to provide comfort for seniors, and improve mental well-being. Some benefits of pet therapy are:

  • Reduces Feelings of Loneliness: Animals offer unconditional affection and a nonjudgmental presence, providing comfort and a sense of connection.

  • Boosts Mood: Interacting with animals has been shown to release endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects. The simple act of petting an animal can alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety.

  • Reduces Stress: Petting an animal can be incredibly calming, lowering blood pressure and heart rate. This therapeutic effect helps to reduce stress and can create a more peaceful atmosphere in care settings.

  • Creates a Sense of Purpose: This sense of responsibility, by caring for a pet can incredibly empowering and bring a feeling of normalcy.

The inclusion of pet therapy in senior care demonstrates that emotional and social health are just as important as physical health. Thank you to our Client Care Manager in New Glasgow, Phyllis, for sharing Luna with us. We look forward to sharing updates on Luna's visits!
